Year: 1999

Set: Finest - Refractors (Rate)

Card: #240 Albert Belle

“ Love the set. Albert, that's good fundamentals using 2 hands to catch the ball. What's that in the background? Trees? Tornados? ” -abide

“ “Peel and remove coating”, never seen that before. Is that allowed for scans on this site? ” -pugchump

“ I didn't know this design was used for baseball, but that shouldn't be a surprise. I love the NBA version of it, quite possibly my favorite Finest design. At least in the running. Too bad the back scan is so washed out. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Every sport needs it's protagonists. Albert Belle was a beast. Can't really tell it is a refractor. I like the Finest 1998 Moment on the back. The overall look is okay but protective film will always hold a special place in my collection. ” -pjdionne12

“ I didn't remember him as an Oriole. ” -muskie027

“ Nice design for one of the biggest misnamed brands. ” -captkirk42

“ Definitely a fall from grace, I hope he is doing better these days. ” -UKboogie

Surprised to see the protective coating hasn't been removed.

To Peel and remove coating would to alter the card as recieved, sacan of the cards without the covering I do believe get removed. You can personally take the coating off to enjoy the card, however the coating was put there to protect the card as they obviously knew they are prone to scratch. I keep all mine as removed from the pack, where as C2Cigars removes the covering as soon as he can. We all have our preference, however the cards on the site are to be scanned as they are right from the pack. Hope that helps with comment #2 in the visible content.

The protective peel was added AFTER the cards were printed. It was put there to protect the cards in the package from rubbing or sticking to each other.  It's part of the packaging process, not part of the card itself.  Totally intended to be TEMPORARY.  It states right on it "REMOVE".  If the card companies wanted it to be permanent they never would have made it peelable or put the word "REMOVE" on it.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.
