“ I may be in the minority, but I always felt the '88 Fleer cards were some of the best looking cards of the 80s. ” -jupiterhill

“ I should have collected these back in the day. I might have to rectify that soon. ” -muskie027

“ This set grows on you. ” -NJDevils

“ A name full of aquatic-related puns! ” -DarkSide830

“ Ah, that red/white/blue banner design doesn't look too bad with a Cubbie. But unfortunately there were also Orioles and Giants and such where it did not coordinate so well. This design just never spoke to me. ” -kents_stuff

“ Nice 1980s Fleer card. Man do I miss Fleer, and the real Donruss. ” -captkirk42

“ ahhh 88 fleer.... the gregg jeffries rookie.... mark Grace. Edgar.... although i think this design is doggie doo. Love the set. ” -parsley24

“ I like 1988 Fleer. Not as much as 1987, but way more than the drab 1989. This card has good color scheme and balance (player photo and background). The split stats are great on the back of the card. They add a great level of insight to the player's abilities. ” -MTHRILL22

“ I can almost hear the photographer: Hold the bat so the bottom is in the palm of your hand. Rest your other arm on top of that hand and look in the distance. Click! ” -JimStaub

“ 1988 was right in the thick of when I would watch every minute of baseball I could, which meant lots of afternoons watching the Cubs on WGN. That said, I have no recollection at all of this gentleman. Classic Fleer though, the good and the not so good. ” -jackal726

Like this card a whole lot for several reasons: 1988 went from being a very challenging year, to in the 2nd half, when I met and courted my Wife of over 30 years; really like the Fleer Set from that year; plus, featured is a Player/Person that I have spent some amazing moments with in March 1995, while stationed down in GITMO!  Wade joined Our Baseball Ministry Team (Athletes in Action Baseball), along with Bernie Carbo, and several Others that March.  We spent time ministering to the great influx of refugees from Cuba & Haiti (showing The JESUS Movie and doing Baseball Camps). One of the highlights was coaching a Team of Cuban Refugee Baseball Studs (Bernie was Our Manager), against a Team of American Baseball Players (mostly softball junkies and some of the AIA Baseball Guyers).  Our Team prevailed soundly with Guys that could throw in the low 90's, effortlessly.  It was certainly one of the greatest set of Days in my Life, with Wade, Bernie and several of my Other Baseball Ministry Partners.  Live were transformed forever, so I am incredibly blessed to have this as one of my strongest events to remember & reflect on often, especially now as a Retiree.  THANKs to You, here in Our TCDB Community for picking & posting this card of Wade!!

Yours in The Journey - Felix

There are a few nice things about the card but I found the border a bit distracting

The borders may be distracting but they're 1000% better than the 89 set

I was going to say the same thing as jackal726. I think I watched every inning of the Cubs in '88 but didn't realize Wade actually played for them. I remember his stint with the Reds though.

In our area this set and the Donruss set were the preffered ones to go after. Topps took a back seat to those two sets. Fleer and Donruss were so at the forefront of the rookie card obsession.

Especially in '86 (Canseco) . I remember that they were trading for obscene amounts back then

I like this design. Wish it had been used in one of the sports I collect.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.
