Set: Topps - Blue (Rate)

Card: #15 Dustin Pedroia

“ I think sometimes there are less than ten people who love the colored parallels. I'm absolutely one of them. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ While technically this may be blue, it's pretty darn close to grey, don't you think? Couldn't blue be blue....like, really blue; dare I say, prismatic blue, perhaps? I like the shape and design in general front and back. Nice use of the infield and running paths to spice up the shapely corner crop. This card is a winner in my book. But it's only barely blue. ” -kents_stuff

“ I always wonder...I know sometimes, someone scans a front and doesn't take the time to scan the back, but how does someone scan a back first and the front is added later by someone else (unless it is a set where all the backs are the same and a person adds all the backs at one, which is not the case here). Honestly, I'm just curious, as maybe there is a simple reason/cause that I am missing!? ” -bkklaos

“ I remember when he was relevant! ” -pksteinberg

“ Nice design. I like the home plate & baselines ” -cjjt

“ I actually like the sea turtle set. ” -switzr1

“ 2013 was another nice issue from Topps. The Blue parallels are ok. ” -muskie027

This is the point where I hate on Machado for destroying The Laser Show's career. Was steadily working himself a HOF potential careEr to a destroyed knee. Opitome of grinder, especially in today's game.

Unusual shade of blue but then Topps sure do love paralel sets.

I think it must be a situation where the image was in the "this needs to be redone" queue for so long an editor removed the scan entirely.

These blue parallels, just like many parallels, have the exact same back as the base set. So if you've scanned the base carrd, front and back, you can add the back for the parallel. I don't do that myself but I think others do.

You are correct, and I have done it for a few.  I haven't done it in a while, but when I did, I made sure that they were exactly the same.

As for the card itself, the scan does look dark, but I think it was because scanning technology has improved in recent years.  In hand they look better, and I actually like the color.  I don't really think they need to make 50 parallels of the same card in different colors, but as a Royals collector, the blue cards look nice.  Same as the few Cardinals cards I have that are in the Target red.

That has all the hallmarks of somebody just using the crappy base scan without correcting it. ALL scanners, even the best ones available, scan with a grayish film that needs to be corrected. I didn't look to see who posted it but there are some people who simply don't bother to do it correctly.

The few times I've posted a back scan only it was because my front was damaged beyond being usable. That includes being autographed in a few cases.

The examples where I posted fronts only is because when I first started scanning in 2009 I did fronts only. I didn't start scanning backs until I joined this website in 2012. Other people got to the backs on some of them before I could get them out and scanned...and a couple of odd sized cards have come up missing. The 1989 Microcards is the most frustrating because I got them new and kept them safe for more than 20 years, but now they are nowhere to be found.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.

I like this set. One of my favorite Topps sets.

I don't mind a few parallels and would prefer a darker blue for the blue parallel. But Topps does often times make way too many parallels. I like it.
