Year: 1992

Set: Ultra (Rate)

Card: #252 Steve Buechele

“ I still love the 1992 Ultra design (any sport). The ONLY thing I don't like about them is the lack of stats on the back. But there just wasn't room to add more stats with the extra photos and I understand that. 1991 Ultra never seemed like a premium product to me, but 1992 and 1993 really put Ultra into the premium realm. ” -spazmatastic

“ Ultra! Love this design in every sport. The baseball version seems kind of bland compared to the more brightly colored version in the NBA and NHL, of which this design was the first year it appeared in those two sports. I completed the NBA set recently and am at more than 50% of the NHL set thanks to getting a sealed box of series 1 for my birthday in 2017. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Someday I'll be able to tell the difference between '92 and '93 Ultra by first glance. Until then, I'll just enjoy the cards for what they are. Looking back at the advent of premium border-less sets in the early '90s, I think Stadium Club had the better photography but Ultra might have been the nicer card overall. ” -mkaz80

“ Awesome card front. Not sure what to make of the grid design on the back. A good looking card overall, imo. ” -CollectingAfterDeath

“ I like most Ultra... FLEER ULTRA sets this one is no exception. I do like the front even though there is no team logo, but at least you can read everything easily. I like the Fleer ball logo. The back I have many issues with but I will skip them and just say "Don't like it" (in the "Men on" style from "In Living Color" when they say "Hated it") ” -captkirk42

“ I bought a lot of these cards as an 11 year old kid. Nice clean design for 1992. ” -rich1516

“ perhaps my least favorite Ultra set for the dumbest of reasons. Ultra was looking to be the premium brand for Fleer, with the gold foil Ultra logo, but this set didn't have it. Ultimately, other Fleer brands became premium, and Ultra settled in as a just a little elevated from flagship. Don't care for the stats on the back being 2 lines: most recent year + career totals ” -abide

“ I still don't get the back of these cards. Why the grid? It's big...it's empty...it's strange. ” -kents_stuff

“ I think this is a similar design to a basketball design too. It's definitely one of the good ones ” -BasketbalHQ

“ Fleer Ultra was cool. ” -muskie027

Very 90's indeed. Like the front though not so sure about the back.

1992 and 1993 Ultra are two of my favorite cards designs, along with the 1997 Skybox Ex-2000 and 1997 Pinnacle Certified and Totally Certified.

Absolutely love this set.  I wish Fleer was still in the game.

This was the first set that I hand collated.  I was an obsessed 12 year old and every dollar I earned went to buying these foil packs.  I couldn't afford 89 Upper Deck, 90 Leaf, or 91 Stadium Club when they were new but 92 Fleer Ultra was attainable enough and I was at an age where I could mow lawns and do enough chores to buy pack after pack.  Looking back, I wish there were more quality rookies in this set but I still love the design.

One of the best design of the junk wax era.
