Frustrating. Hopefully I am just ignorant on the process. How to search your collection for a player by name, and the result display what collection the card is in? I mean, a database that does not tell you where the item is located is a worthless database. From what I see, you must know the location (collection assigned to) or open each collection and look through the names. Of course, you could enter tags or comments and search by those, but my goodness...

I definitely wouldn't say it's a worthless database no matter how much clicking is involved, but I can't find a way to search by name for 'All Collections'. Sounds like a fine feature request.

Worthless to me I should point out. LOL. Thanks for reply. It isn't just the clicking, you pretty much have to know the collection the card is in, which defeats the purpose I plan on using it for. Guess I will go back to working on my PHP MYSQL database. I should have noticed the issue before I entered 40,000 cards in 25 different collections. LOL

Searching is easy for one collection, maybe even 2 or 3, but you have 72. A search feature that would allow you to search a player by name across all collections would be a great feature. I can only imagine trying to remember what collection you have a player in. Would take forever to search all the collections. Maybe that feature will be added in the future. I wouldn't say its worthless. But the feature would certainly add value.

All databases are not created equal. People create them for what they what done at the time they create it. I created a excel file years ago and changed it a few times as things change for me. I still use it as the database here does not include all the cards I have. Yes you can say having 2 databases to keep up is a real bummer but that is life.
Members here use the database in different ways. Some members brought up the fact they have their collections list the way they have them stored. Collection A is stored in box A and so on. I think that is where people started using the tags to help them out.

There is sort of a way, but it isn't by name - it's by set. Though it is not efficient, it might cover what you're asking. On your "Collections" page, scroll to the bottom and select "All Collections". Once you do that, you get the breakdown by sport, and you can go in to whichever one is necessary.
From here, go to "Sets", select the set in question, and then find "Collection" under "Browse/Share". This screen will show you all of the cards listed in all of your collections from that set, and to the left of the card number is a little "i" icon. Clicking that icon brings you to your "Browse Card" screen, and this will show you what collection(s) you have the card in. There's also a drop-down at the top for you to select another card from that set.
-------------------------------
I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Thanks jasongerman9
Appreciate that. That is nice if I am looking for a particular card or set, thank you. What if I wated a particular player (to have it list every collection that player is in)?

I've used Beckett for ages...magazines and their website. Their site and collection tool has features I like and don't like. Same with this site. So I have to use the 2 together to manage all the cards, binders, and boxes. Would be nice to do it all in one place, but gotta work with what I have.

One collection seems like enough. I have no problem searching. Perhaps you should think about how much you pay for this site and you might appreciate it more. Accept this site and anything in life as made up of good and bad things. Relax.

I have over 200 collections. I had a situation where I got a card in that was actually incorrectly linked to a personthat it shouldn't have been linked to. I looked at the cards for quite a while trying to figure out which collection I thought it should be in (because it had the incorrect link removed between the time of the trade acceptance and my receiving of the cards). It was a little painful, so I get this. This would be a great idea to add in the New Feature Tracker (if there isn't something already there).
