I don't know of any variations. Yes as per standard Topps Non-Sport during the 1970s and 80s There are two complete puzzles a blue border and red border. I forget how many cards per puzzle for this set.
Even though cardboard connection is really good for most descriptions and checklists they don't seem to tell how many puzzles there are: http://www.cardboardconnection.com/1978-topps-battlestar-galactica-trading-cards
Lets check Jeff llender's House of Checklists. This site specializes in Non-Sport Card details like this: http://www.nslists.com/batgal78.htm
It agrees with the 2 puzzles on red one blue. It mentions that each puzzle has a "gray" border variation. I'm guessing this means that technically the border wasn't colored in? Oh dear now I need to check my set to 1) Make sure I have complete red and blue puzzles and 2) To get the gray border variant. *Sigh!* I thought I had completed this set years ago.
I collect: Baseball, Football, Hockey, Mostly Vintage pre1980, My Homie teams - Washington/Baltimore Teams Senators (Twins, Rangers), Expos/Nationals, Redskins, Capitals, Bullets/Wizards - HOFers - Non-sport (mostly TV shows and movies).
My Trade List is very much a work in progress
