Interesting replies....I'm a card hoarder...nothing gets thrown away except for water damage...still haunts me- 2 1989 UD 5000ct boxes heaved in the trash. sad day...
If I threw away all my extra 70s and 80s...I would never have started collecting errors and variations....that was my CARD COLLECTING REBIRTH...E&Vs..took years to go back through those boxes and boxes to collate my E&V collection.
Great story...I was doing a card show and a fellow walks in with a large cardboard box of cards, as he passed dealer after dealer they turned down buying the box. The dealer next to me at least looked, rubber-banded stacks of cards...not great shape..but ~BOB~'s dream, MAYS, MANTLE, AARON, etc. dozens of 50s and 60s. The raincoated man needed some cash, so the dealer handed him $100...I shuttered..had $ in hand. S_IT!
At the same slow show, the dealer on the other side of me bought a whole stack of wax and proceeded to rip the packs...kept the insert and with a garbage barrel next to him threw everything else away...1000s of cards...oh, I would have "dumpster" dove if I had the guts. That also changed my collecting...you can't have every set or card especially with the glut of production.... refocused my collecting,,, up to that time I had every BB and FB set produced that year. Couldn't keep up or afford it.
The good news of that same show, as I hung to the very end....A guy fresh from AC was looking for RCs of Sheffield, Glavine and more....so I proceeded to pull a RC each for him.....$800 later he took them all, 100s of RCs!!!!!
Hope I didn't bore,
~BOB~
