Hi all,
Just reacting out to ask how you all ship from Canada to the US? I usually use Canada Post locations that are located in Shoppers Drugmart but i'm looking for other options if available.

I use the CP outlets when I am sending something oversized, or internationally, but for anything 0-30g or 30-50g I keep the correct stamps at home and walk them to the mailbox.
Also, I have a small kitchen scale which I use to weigh each trade, and since I started doing that, I have found a few savings. A couple of trades were a gram or two into the next highest classification, and knowing that the weight was so close, I can remove weight as needed to cut down on costs

PWE I put a stamp on it and drop it in the mail box. None have ever not been delivered. Anything that I need CP to decide ont hecost, I go to my favourite CP emplyee who happens to be in a Shoppers Drugmart. I also use the post offcie at he military wing I work at. I avoid the Post Office itself unless I know it won't matter how it will be charged. And the other Shoppers I coudl use, I won't.
Find that employee who is not trying to raise CP revenue at your expense.

I do find a few times they charge higher rate (3.19) when I expect lower (1.90). Last time they weighed a few cards, charged 3.19 and told me it was because it was too thick...I started to think it's me who's too thick...not knowing the rules...I intend to lose some of my own personal thickness.

I'm mostly organizing over adding right now.

It has to do with weight, but also physical size. The flatter you can get everything, the better.
I forgot to mention, I have also used pages inside 8.5 x 11 full size envelopes with success in larger trades, as well.

This is pretty much what I plan to do but maybe next time I get to the post office. In the meantime, I'm using permanent stamps for Canadian letters (and overpaying slightly as a result). Kitchen scales are inexpensive and I even use mine for weighing ingredients in the kitchen sometimes!
For anything that ships as a parcel, I pay and do my customs declaration online and drop off in the nearest mailbox that can fit parcels. Sometimes that means walking into the post office outlet.

Ditto... Weigh on home scales .. then have had the best outcomes with Shoppers Drug Mart rather than the "official" P.O. here. As well if I'm certain of it being < 30gm, I'll just stamp it myself and send it along As you are likely aware thinner is better than thicker when sending PWE and I'll try and adjust/limit a trade by weight in order to maximize savings . At least our Canada to Canada shipping is less expensive when compared to an equal weight heading souht or oversees.

If this is our trade you're sweating over, wait for my shipment to get there, and copy how I sent to you. I'm okay with waiting if that helps you figure out the best way to ship.

-- Dan -- Note: Please see my profile for more info regarding trading (section updated 10/25/2023). I have added a large portion of my inventory to the site, and currently have trading turned off (details are in my profile). I have (finally) unearthed my 2 very large boxes of Star Company minor league sets and they are available (email for details).

Dan's advice might be the best advice. I pay specific attention to how each member packs their own trades, and take cues from that. I'm sure my first TTMs must have looked really strange, especially my first "large" trade, but as I did more, I learned from other members.

Sending by "letter mail" is the key to getting the lowest cost. You can use PWE, 5x7 or even 9x13 envelopes, plain or bubble. As long as the total weight is below 500 grams, letter mail works. Above that weight and it needs to be sent as a parcel and the cost is much more.
The Canada Post website details all of the weights and dimensions under "find a rate".
Letter mail does not require any customs documentation.
