Per the powers-that-be in the labeling conventions the Star card is an XRC (Extended Rookie Card). It's not really a term that is used anymore other than for those that had been labeled so, as in this case. What may also come into play is that Star may not have been valued as a legitimate company due to lack of widespread distribution compared to Fleer. And other than the Star cards, there wasn't any other major company issuing cards in the mid-80s besides Fleer.
