Do you guys write non machinable or do not bend on your shipments? Which one? Is there really a difference between the two? Is it worth it writing both? I did a quick good search and there are claims that if you want "non machinable" there's extra costs.

I am DUMB. I pay the non machineable charge at the post office, and the post office sends them through the machine anyway. I have noticed a lot of my trading partners do the same thing, so there is comfort in knowing I am not alone :(.

Shipping from the US it is 15 cents for the "magical non-machinable" red stamp at the post office. Whether they actually do it or not is another story...

I asked my local post office about the non-machinable stamps for the US and Canada. They had neither heard of them, not were willing to listen to me. I use Shaw Racing's method of putting a quick note underneath the recipient's address.

I pay the extra 15 cents for the non machinable stamp and write do not bend in red ink. No idea if it helps but I haven’t had anyone complain of damaged cards yet

I like PHOTOS ENCLOSED....just a bit more specific! Wouldn't want Grandmas pics to get ruined by PO, especially after you told them !

As far as i'm concerned the red hand stamp, Do not bend, photo's, non machinable markings only help with the mail carrier that delivers the envelope to your mailbox. The sorting machines are set up for speed. That is not even foolproof. I've had "do not bend" envelopes make it all the way to my porch only to have the carrier fold it in half to cram it into my antique cast iron wall mounted mailbox when there is a large box (big enough to hold their entire mailbag) under it they just pulled the outgoing packages/envelopes out of a second before. I've always wondered why they cannot just drop it into the big box (Its actually a USPS corrugated plastic container) .

I always pay for non-machineable, sometimes they would stamp them with the red stamp and sometimes they wouldn't. I solved that by buying my own non-machineable stamp online and now I stamp them all before I take them in.

I was at my Post Office on Monday. I asked the clerk to weigh the PWE that I was sending. (I like to check every few months to make sure my scale is accurate.). He asked what was in the envelope. I told him baseball cards and a piece of chipboard. (Never say cardboard.) He said the envelope was too rigid and needed to be sent as a package. I told him it was flexible. He repeated that it was too rigid and wouldn't go through the machine. I told him that it would but pointed out that I paid extra for the 70 cent non machinable stamps. He actually laughed at me and said "Yeah, let me tell you... they all go through the machines. It doesn't matter what stamp you put on it."
I'm sure there are very nice people that work for the PO but I must admit, I never get them at the counter.
