I've noticed the interest in Raffles have spiked on here.
Would you be interested in this idea?
>> Actually same idea, however your entry contains "cards". 1. The Raffle describes the item being raffled, graded card, set, small set, lot, anything. 2. Your entry would be let's say 5 cards from my wantlist, so, just write ENTER - 1979 Topps Baseball. 3. Your entry enters the bowl for a set drawing date. That's it.
The idea is to raffle off higher valued items or Odd items or lotsa items just jamming up my collection. I pay s/h.
What do you think? I can have this up and running ASAP. Also FUN during social distancing!

Not a raffle. Not sure what the heck to call it, but not a raffle.
But I would think - just so it's completely fair and doesn't look like it could be biased at all - you'd need to ask people to claim to be in only when they've identified that they have 5 cards from your want list, but not reveal what they are. Then, once they are announced as the winner, they can reveal in the thread what 5 cards they're sending your way. Otherwise, it looks like a best offer type thing again. :)
Do you think adding that sounds fair?
Oh, and you might want to amend the "I pay s/h." I'm making the assumption you're only paying for the shipping of the item(s) your sending, not for the ones you're receiving. (Just trying to help ya.)

First, others are using the term "raffle" incorrectly. As far as your idea..No, Bob. Requiring payment (cards) for an entry is a no. Each state (and countries) have laws governing raffles because they are a form of gambling. You can double check with Admin.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Chuck, he's only requiring the person who "wins" to send 5 cards his way.
With the addition of the rules I suggested, I think he'd be okay doing this. Just, it's not a raffle.
And yes, the others are simply "giveaways", but for only one person (or 4, it looks like in one case).

To quote from is original post "2. Your entry would be let's say 5 cards from my wantlist". That says an entry in the raffle costs 5 cards. Nothing about only winners having to pay 5 cards. Even to suggest everyone must commit to payment (cards) may be seen as gambling in various states. And since this is an internet site, every state has a say in this. Even if it's a gray area or unclear, it's best to avoid it without Admin's permission. Why risk the site being shutdown or fined?

No it doesn't sound better. It's not a giveaway if you're requiring payment (cards). If you're going to giveaway cards, then just giveaway cards. If you want to trade cards, then just trade cards.
If you want to continue with this idea, then lay it ALL out to Admin and get their permission first before putting it in the forums.

Bob, it seems to me that you'd have more success getting what YOU want by just trading according to matches. It sounds more like you usually desire your wants met, and the others may or may not get theirs.
