“ all team issued postcards are inherently awesome. Billy's first minor league game was at age 17 in 1945, his last was in 1971 at age 43.....coached managed forever and still kicking at age 96...and he wore #42!!! ” -jamestagli

“ Gardner never managed a winning season for the Twins in the early '80s, but he helped set the stage for the '87 and '91 World Series, as players like Kirby Puckett, Frank Viola, and Kent Hrbek all made their major league debut under his tenure ” -Hollywood42

“ All right people, we got 10 minutes 'till game time, let's all gather 'round. I'm not much for giving inspirational addresses, but I'd just like to point out that every newspaper in the country has picked us to finish last. The local press seems to think that we'd save everyone the time and trouble if we just went out and shot ourselves. Me, I'm for wasting sportswriters' time. So I figured we ought to hang around for a while and see if we can give 'em all a nice big s*&%burger to eat! ” -parsley24

“ Man I remember when I would run into these as a kid I thought they were actually auto'd. ” -TsunamiJon

Love Slick! Even when he was managing, he lived in two rooms at a local Super-8 motel...

He had one plate appearance while managing the Pawtucket Red Sox in 1971. I'd love to know the story; can't find a mention of it in the Pawtucket Times archives. He also played 2B and 3B a couple of times while managing Pittsfield in 1967 and 1969.

I didn't appreciate that we now accept postcards as trading cards.
