“ Type his name in Baseball Reference...nothing. Why does he have a card in a major release set? (On Back: "Minor League Record- Did Not Play" ??? this is a college card! ) He's probably a good guy, but does anyone want this card aside from Joe's Mom? I can only imagine all the MLB relievers who pitched in 50+ games, probably with a mid 3 ERA, in 2000-2001 who did not get any card, yet we have Joe Hamer in base, gold, blue, yellow, etc????? ” -chvlDm

“ Typical Bowman . . . not great but not bad . . . It's got a good beat but you can't dance to it . . . ” -georgecf

The image on the front reminds me of Crash Davis from Bull Durham.

I came here basically to say what chvlDm said, here is a guy who made no impact at all with a handful of cards to chase after yet the bullpen guys who pitch 50+ games year after year get ignored - the tons of prospect cards and myriad paralells work out just fine for the Pujols and Ichiro in this set but the rest of the cardboard could be given to more deserving people.

Agree with others on how much Bowman makes a reach for young players. This is actually a high school card (the back says he passed up a college scholarship and was drafted by the Twins - in the 25th round). It doesn't appear he ever played a minor league game.  Only 2 players drafted in the 25th round that year even made the majors, Nate McLouth had a nice 10 year career and Jack Cassel pitched 2 years for a total of 53 innings.

We all know the true rookie star of this set for the Twins was Justin Morneau, NOT this dude.

Another reason not to like "prospect" cards. Gold? What is gold the Bowman Logo? The foil on his name? That is NOT a variation, that is a gimmick disguised as a variation.
