Year: 2018

Set: Upper Deck CFL (Rate)

Card: #190 Chris Van Zeyl

“ It nice see an OL receive a card. Overall the card is not very exciting. ” -Brendan Barrick

“ I think if the CFL was more widely available in the states I would watch it more. Upper Deck did a nice job with the more recent CFL sets. ” -jupiterhill
  4
“ Over the past coupla years I have bought more CFL product rather than NFL product for football. More than likely it is because Upper Deck does a much nicer job than Panini. Plus Upper Deck seems to include more of the linemen, as seen here, and kickers which makes me happy. ” -Gunny
  2
“ Bloquer sounds much cooler than Tackle. ” -buckstorecards

“ Nice CFL card. UPPER DECK? I thought it was a Panini card at first. ” -captkirk42

“ Even though it is the CFL it is nice to see a lineman! ” -cardcollector65jw
  1
“ The side border takes up way too much of the front. Such a waste. The card is basically a mini with wasted space to make it regular sized. ” -pjdionne12
  1
“ I just got my first CFL cards as part of a loose lot of randomness I picked up. These look cool, but that is what I expect from Upper Deck. ” -muskie027

I had no idea that UD was making CFL cards! Now there are a few more cards that I need to hunt down as I know a few players I collect switched from the NFL to CFL. While the design isn't great and looks like the cheap level of cards, I'd still be interested in specific cards. UD is still my overall favorite brand that still exists today, they just don't make cards of the sports I collect now. I REALLY wanted UD to start making NASCAR cards when Press Pass shut down in January of 2015. UD already knew the challenges of that as they stopped making NASCAR cards in 2000, but I'd love to see them challenge Panini in the sport. Despite what some people keep "reporting" or claiming, Panini does NOT have an exclusive license to NASCAR cards! Panini is just the only company making the cards right now. Anybody can make NASCAR cards if they get the licensing from the teams and drivers. I'd love to see UD get back into that sport.

Clean, straighforward, average cardboard from Upper Deck.  It's attractive, but nothing really stands out.

I was so excited to see UD started making CFL cards in 2014, I've been buying every year since then. (Lots for trade ... )

They're pretty good quality, the designs are average, but overall a typically well done Upper Deck product

I could probably buy the already complete sets cheaper somewhere else, but I like getting my maildays.

The border is a bit on the big side and the back is quite bland, but that's par for the course with many UD sets.

Van Zeyl was definitely a fan favourite in Toronto. It sucked seeing him get released to go to rival Hamilton.

I bought season seats for the Argos in 2020 after years of hesitation, but the season was cancelled. Sounds like Ontario is finally starting to lift restrictions and will allow fans to attend in time for the 2021. Can't wait! I just wish more in the Greater Toronto Area could get into the CFL and stop wishing for that NFL team that will never get here. I had that "it's not the NFL" mentality for a while when I was a teen/younger adult, but the Canadian variant was very entertaining when I gave it a proper chance.

Glad to see a CFL card as COTD! I miss the old Pacific designs for CFL, which looked really sharp... But if the only game in town is Upper Deck, then that's the one I'll get!
