Year: 1991

Set: Upper Deck (Rate)

Card: #359 William Frizzell

“ I like this design better than the 92UD Baseball with which it shares many features. Two great photos, clean layout, all the info you need to see. If Upper Deck could somehow get permission to release one set per season for each sport, I think I'd collect them all. ” -dilemma19

“ Another action photo on a football card. A++ ” -switzr1

“ For me when the football set matches or closely resembles the baseball set, i am turned off a bit. Although UD hit the ground running, i was disappointed with the similar looking graphics for a couple of years. ” -parsley24

“ I like the photo used, and the overall design is nice. ” -BasketbalHQ

“ I like the 91 UD Football even though I tend to think the 91 UD Baseball as being just blah. I like the team logo in the football and the use of team colors. Back I don't like the vertical lettering nor the large photo. ” -captkirk42

“ A fine set. Over-produced. Crisp pictures. ” -cjjt

“ I like this card design. It's clean and uncomplicated. I've never noticed the Eagles mascot of a flying eagle with a football in it's talons before. ” -abide

“ This is a nice overall design. The card stock for 1991 through 1993 Upper Deck Football issues were well done. ” -Brendan Barrick

“ A nice action shot, although I think that the subject of the card should be isolated. ” -Phil

“ Good photos, love the throwback logo and the green-and-silver coloring. And the back photo is large and clear--nice. A few stats shown. All in all, nice. ” -kents_stuff

“ I just sorted this set in the past week. I really liked it, but the hologram variances caused me to not see straight for days. The notes on the set were VERY helpful in determining what I had. I thought this set looked awesome! ” -muskie027

A nicely put together set with a decent photo on both sides and stats.

Not to call anyone out, but I don't see how this resembles the baseball set at all, other than the team logo in the lower right corner.  Just like I don't understand these complaints I've seen over the past few years that 'all the recent Topps baseball sets look too much alike.' IMO, there's nothing similar between the 2015 and 2016 sets, or 2017 and 2018, etc.  Just a pet peeve of mine.

End rant

I am surprised that no one mentionedthe 1991 Colts had a rather terrible record that year.  1-15

The Eagles switched to black shoes for that 1990 season, Buddy Ryan's last

I know people constantly complain about the sets having the same design across multiple sports. Not me, I love it. It really gives the brands an identity for that year, and when I run across one from one of the sports I don't collect, I have a pretty good idea when it was issued and where I would go to catalog it on here.

Of course, that's a moot point with this set because it's not the same design as used in any other sports.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.

Not sure how many saw this because UD lost their NFL license by 2011, but this design was used again for a 20th anniversary insert set
