Year: 1993

Set: Classic Best Jamestown Expos (Rate)

Card: #18 Matthew Raleigh

“ Meh. Nothing good, nothing bad about this product. Early 90's Classic usually had good info on the back and this fits the bill. The picture could be better, but I'm not surprised that it isn't. Overall, it's a decent card from the mid-90's that would get at least a 5 of 10 vote from me. ” -spazmatastic

“ This is weird. 3 days in a row!! I think the database gods heard that I had seen too much hockey lately and have blessed me with an abundance of minor league baseball. I have many cards from the 93 Classic Best sets and though it is a pretty basic looking set, it has everything you want on both sides and it is minor league baseball so it's all great with me. ” -davidhandberry

“ Sorry I wrote one already but I took a look at this set and had to add in something strange. All the other cards from this team set the pictures are in color and on the field. This is the only card with a black and white photo in front of a brick wall. Seemed strange to me. ” -davidhandberry

“ Nice minor league card. ” -captkirk42

The brick wall is the base of the grandstand.  He was probably standing by the players entrance when the picture was taken.  I'm about 30 miles away from Jamestown and saw several good players come through that organization.  Including DeLino DeShields, Marquis Grissomm and football's Ricky Williams, when he tried his hand at baseball with the Phillies minor league affilate.

Awesome. He played at Burlington the next year and I got to see him a lot when they played Cedar Rapids. My dad and I went to a lot of Cedar Rapids games that year and Matt Raleigh is one of the names I still remember from that summer.

I like the Minor League Cards that have been up. I need to get into more. Jose Altuve came through my Hometown of Greeneville, TN. (Greeneville Astros now Greeneville Reds Rookie League)
