Year: 1992

Set: Wild Card (Rate)

Card: #395 Tony Smith

“ I remember collecting these when they first came out. I didn't last long collecting football so it is always nice when a familiar set shows up. I still like the design of them. The front is great, everything you would like in a card, border is great, wish the Wild Card logo was more in the corner instead of being on the picture, but that is a minor issue. The back is bad though. I wish the picture was helmetless, because a closeup of a masked person is pointless. No stats, team name/logo, the coloring bothers me. It is a mess. I would give the front a 10 and the back a 2. ” -davidhandberry

“ To me, these always looked like cards from some sort of strategy game or board game. Nonetheless, it's a card from the early '90s so therefore I love it! (Also: Was 'runningback' ever one word?) ” -mkaz80

“ I like the fronts on this set. Good photos. Back leaves something to be desired. ” -NJDevils

“ always liked the look of these wild card cards, I was too young when they were actually a thing and just the other week I found out about the card exchange thing they supposedly did ” -Thunderfoot

“ Could use some...any....stats on the back. The design of the front makes it seem like he's a 1,000 yard rusher, but he amassed only 329 for his career. Also, running back should always be two words. ” -vanstryland

“ Wild Card. When they first hit the market I loved these things. I think because of having the team helmet on the front. Don't like the very bare bones back. ” -captkirk42

“ I really like Wild Card, in sort of a "these are so ridiculous, they're great" kind of way. ” -switzr1

“ Wild Card was kind of a cool concept. I guess I never realized it at the time, but do they get any credit for maybe starting the parallel set craze? I am not sure if there were many sets prior to Wild Card that offered 6 or more parallel sets, even though they weren't acknowledged as such. The gimmick was find a 20 stripe card, send it in and get 20 of that card. What resulted was a parallel set for each numerical stripe. I always liked these cards. ” -muskie027
