Year: 1998

Set: Pacific Omega (Rate)

Card: #113 Jeff Conine

“ Marlins legend. Very few of those ” -Tylergallo

“ I wonder if they ever did an Alpha set to go along with the Omega brand? I could easily look it up, but...meh, if I followed up on every one liner thought I had I'd never get anything scanned. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Oddly, I don't think I've ever seen these cards, but I like them. Looks like more Royals to add to my wantlist. ” -jupiterhill

“ I like this set and I usually don't like sets that the cards are horizontal facing. This set has always been one of the exceptions but reviewing cards I have come to not like duplicate pictures. If they had just left off third silver picture on the far right I would still have given the front a 10 but because of it I have to drop the front to a 8 and the back still gets a 10, would have liked more stats but the picture and the paragraph about him I think make up for it. ” -davidhandberry

“ Ah Pacific. I like this one along with about 90% of the Pacific brands/sets. Front design is neat, Not thrilled with repeat of photo for the B&W right image. Back is OK but something about it bugs me and I can't quite place it other than the one year stats. Partly reminds me of some of the "Wild Card" backs. ” -captkirk42

“ I like the seams, although I feel like it would make more sense to use a different photo on the right and keep it in color. ” -vanstryland

“ I've always liked this set ” -switzr1

“ I like the concept, but it ends up being too much on the front. Why is the center picture the same as the right picture? Odd choice. The back looks like it was printed diagonally. Maybe that's just my old eyes. ” -muskie027

The late-90's Omega sets are some of the best that Pacific made in my personal opinion. The design was always fantastic for the short time they were made. The backs could have had a bit more stat info and that's the only thing I'd give a minus to for this card/set. Overall, I loved the Omega releases and wish I could have found more packs of these to bust back then. Lastly, there are FOUR pictures on the card. So I don't mind that far-right picture being a duplicate one in B&W.

Also, this set was the prototype for Upper Deck's Sweet Spot release about a decade later. I guarantee that Sweet Spot wouldn't have existed without this specific card design.
