Year: 2004

Set: Topps Chrome (Rate)

Card: #178 Rocky Biddle

“ Nice card. I like Topps Chrome. This must have been near the end of the Expos. I think I saw Biddle pitch for the Expos at Dodger Stadium in 2003, but would have to look on my computer to be sure. ” -switzr1

“ Didn't Chrome just come up recently? I life the design of this Topps set. ” -muskie027

“ I never got the point of the existence of Chrome. Basically, Topps base cards that are more difficult to keep in mint shape and aren't too easy on the eyes. I can't be alone in thinking this way. ” -DanD

“ 2004 Topps I know I know I need to get more of you. Regular not Chrome. Thought we had one of these recently. OK back in November on the 17th we had a 2004 First Edition, not the Chrome. OK so I'm not totally nuts, just partly. Like the design reminds me of sets from the 1970s and 80s the front anyway the back will always be something from the 1990s or early 2000s with the color headshot on the back. ” -captkirk42

“ Definitely my favourte part of this design is the silhouette of the player in the bottom corners. ” -rmpaq5

“ Bring back the Expos ” -rmitchell6700

Nice looking set and probably like a lot of Chrome, even better in hand.

I'm with you DanD.  You forgot to mention their propensity to curl up when you store them in boxes.  But they're so shiny!!

I really like Topps Chrome, more so lately that they are different than the Topps base set.  The early days were a straight repeat of the Topps base, but the set has developed into it’s own.  Love the glossy, but it does need to go into a penny sleeve on day one to keep it looking good.

I am with DanD and Dilemma19, the set is unnecessary. If anything, Topps should get rid of one of the color variations in the flagship and replace with chrome in it serial numbered.

I'll add to my comment to say that I still buy them as I come across them, but still prefer the standard Topps and Bowman releases.  Yes, I forgot to mention that the curling issue sucks, and it seems to happen with cards made from this material sooner than with others from my own experience.

Upper Deck has an annual set each year that they release through Tim Hortons.  That curling issue occurs quicly with those as well, with a good portion of cards I recieved on Christmas morning being curled fresh out of the pack.
