Random Card of the Day

Year: 2001-02

Set: Topps High Topps (Rate)

Card: #31 Stromile Swift

“ The High Topps set is done in the same size and format as the 1969-70 and 70-71 sets. A major pain to store, and forget sorting them with your other cards of the player or team. The borders are actually metallic white but that does not show up in scans. The Memphis on the back is photoshopped- the team moved from Vancouver to Memphis between the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons. The front image is real, however, as in their final Canadian season the team just wore "Grizzlies". He didn't really live up to being the second overall pick, but that draft class was not really a strong one; none of the players are still active. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Correction on my previous comment: Jamal Crawford is presumably still active from 2000 Draft. He does not have a contract for the new season yet but he does plan to play. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ If any sport should have tall cards, I guess it oughta be basketball. Stromile especially, since that dude could jump to the rafters. Couldn't do much else than that, but it got him to the NBA! ” -mkaz80

“ One of the best front pictures I have seen on a card recently. Reminds me of old NBA posters when I was a kid that always showed someone being dunked on. That is the good. Now for the bad. The design on the right is confusing with another ball that looks like its in his hand. The name gets lost without some background behind it. White border. The cropping on the picture on the back. And finally and probably worst I hate odd shaped cards. ” -davidhandberry

“ I don't like the length of this card, other than that it looks good. Swift should be the only one in color though and it would make it better. ” -Tylergallo

“ Ah modern Basketball Tall Boys. The name "High Topps" is appropriate. The foiled basketball logo makes it look like he has two balls in his hands. When did this turn into a Harlem Globetrotters card? Hehehe. ” -captkirk42

“ I suppose it's just the nostalgia of my childhood ABA/NBA cards, but I admit I still think it's cool to see basketball cards in this elongated size. But that really is a bad location for that fake basketball that's apparently part of the Topps logo. ” -kents_stuff

“ Don't like odd shapes and don't like this card. Why the second basketball? A big fat no on this one. ” -muskie027

What is the point of having a drawing of a Basketball over the front photo on the right? Really?!

I really like these cards but I won't buy any cards that I can't keep in a hard case and I've looked everywhere i know for them but until I find them I'm even avoiding 69-70 and 70-71 basketball cards and there's quite a few of those I'd love to add to my collection

Ultra Pro makes cases for this size. They seem to be rare. My local shop had them, but not sure if they still do. I will see if I can find the photo I took when I got them.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.
