Year: 1986

Set: Topps - Collector's Edition (Tiffany) (Rate)

Card: #667 Tim Teufel

“ Excellent scan! This is not my favorite 1980s Topps design, but it's solid. Gives you everything you could want with a base card, or in this case, a parallel of one. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I like the design, although it is not my favorite photo for a card. But, anytime a Twins player is RCOTD, I have to be happy! ” -twinscollector34

“ This is a top 5 set all-time in my opinion. Love this set. ” -carthage44

“ Love the stats on the back, find it interesting that he recorded an inside the park homer before a stolen base... ” -SaveDaKid

“ Hooray for Topps Tiffany. Big points for that. And the 1986 Topps design took many, MANY years to grow on me. I thought it was a letdown after I liked the 1985s so much, but I like them now. So this card gets a good grade from me. Also, I think 1986 was the last year Topps put positions on the front until maybe 1991, right? ” -switzr1

“ The first cards I collected were 1986 Topps. In retrospect not a very attractive set but partially because the black borders never age well and I didn't keep my early cards in as good condition as I did later. Teufel, which means devil in German, I think, actually platooned at 2nd base for the Mets in 1986. A memorable year all-around. ” -joshthurman

“ Tiffany cards showed us the future of cards (white stock), but we just didn't know it at the time. I wasn't aware of their existence back then (I guess my LCS didn't carry them - maybe too expensive) but now, I wish I had these. ” -vrooomed

“ "You wanna take my picture for a card? I'll think about it." ” -marcbrubaker

“ Like the 1986 Topps. Didn't know this was a "Tiffany" till I checked the flip side and it looked like a Heritage reprint due to the Tiffany brighter back. ” -captkirk42

“ Mr. Teufel seems a bit perplexed by his facial expression. ” -rmpaq5

I purchased the Tiffany sets and Updates from 84 thru 89 when they came out. A few years ago was going through a set I had unsealed, found many cards totally miss cut. Not sure which year it was, but was majorly disappointed. I figure some day to go back and try to get the cards needed to fix the set.

I never realized Teufel was actually traded to the Mets that year.  I thought he was a call-up from the Mets' farm system.  Apparently Billy Beane was one of the three players Teufel was traded for.

I'd prefer the regular Topps sets over the Tiffany sets (until 1991), just like I'd prefer the regular Topps sets over the Gold sets (after 1991).

I hear you.    I just opened a box set of USFL 1985 which I had bought when they came out,  all NrMt-MT and sold it on EBAY.   Next I opened a 1984 USFL box  set.   Discovered 7 commons that were dinged and one card with a slight crease....the Steve Young RC.   That's life.     Just put the Young out on Ebay and will see what happens.

My favorite Topps design from the '80s has always been the 1989 series. But, this year is a very close 3rd, after the wood frame design in '87.
