Set: Finest (Rate)

Card: #227 Mike Macfarlane

“ It totally slipped my mind he played for other teams besides the Royals. ” -jupiterhill

“ Not sure which aspect I like better: The "vertical blinds" background (on both the front and back!) or the name, blurb card number, etc. written in uber-high-tech font... So much to love. ” -dilemma19

“ Needs team name and team logo. Player position would be nice. NOT Topps "Finest" by any means. Back is OK but would be better with more complete stats. ” -captkirk42

“ Good ol Mike Macfarlane. Solid catcher for the Royals for quite a few years. Question peel or don't peel? ” -RoyalChief

“ Sorry to say, not my favorite set by a long shot. Topps at its worst IMO. ” -engine614

“ Crazy good scan for a chrome based card. ” -carthage44

“ These sets are way too condition sensitive for my collector's taste. ” -suomibear8

To answer Royalchief's question, peel. Otherwise you have a bunch of diagonal words across your card, which, whatever you think of the design of this card, is just ugly. Unless you just have the card to resell. Then, by all means leave the plastic coating on.

Umm... yeah. I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one.  (I did that in my Office Space voice).  I have no plans of reselling my cards, but I never peel.  To me it is part of the card.  Sure it has words on it, but I can still tell whats behind it, plus I don't want it scratched up.  The only time I would even consider peeling is if it is already peeling off or its not smooth, then I make a game time decision.  Usually I try to smooth it out, if I can't then I will peel it.

But to each their own.  :)

At this point in time they are probably not peelable. The early peels were tough to pull off when they were new, let alone now.

I am working on getting multiple copies of each Finest card so I can have both. (unfortunately an idea that didn't come to me until I traded or gave away most of my duplicates...)

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.

I agree with not peeling these, but what is your opinion of the dar Mystery ccards where you could have one of three players and you cant tell which card it is until you peel it.  I did peel all of mine when I received them.  Any opnions???

Always interesting. I'd go crazy if there was a plastic coating with words on my card. I'd peel it right away, so I wasn't tempted to leave it alone later. And I'd get it in plastic immediately to protect it. Which sounds stupid, of course, but at least I could take it out and look at it in its pristine condition. Or could I? Would it stick to the inside of the plastic sheet? I guess I'm glad I stick to plain cardboard cards.

(Nice "Office Space" voice, by the way)

I would only peel if I had several.

The Mystery versions are a different story, it has to be peeled.

Yeah, I'm a peeler.  I just can't take seeing it on there.  But, I'm that way with anything.  I never leave the film on my cell phones or anything like that.  They just stare at me...mocking me till I give in and rip it off.  :)

Lots of good banter here!  I'm a "not peel" guy, but I like Billy's idea of two parallel sets, one "peeled" and one "unpeeled"...added to my very long list of collecting goals (most likely never to be realized)!

Peel it.  It really detracts from the card.

Take it off like a stripper.  Peel it baby.
