Year: 1981

Set: Topps Traded (Rate)

Card: #803 Rick Miller

“ Cool design. If I collected baseball I would be chasing this set. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ The 1981 Topps Traded set caught collectors off-guard in the fall of 1981. Everyone just assumed they'd be a $5 set, being that there were only 132 cards. Turned out, supply did not meet demand and the set sold for $15-$20 after its release. The following year, dealers stocked up, thinking they could be sets for $5 and sell them for $15. Of course, at the first major show that had them, the EPSCC Willow Grove "Philly" Show, dealers went for the quick buck and sold them for a dollar over cost. It wasn't until 10 years later when THAT set, the 1982 Topps Traded set went wild, because of the Ripken rookie. But as far as the 1981 Topps Traded goes, I always liked the idea of keeping the numbering going from the base set, as opposed to using a T prefix or suffix. ” -Dave Sosidka

“ More classic 70s/80s 'stache.. Very typical Topps card from those years... They don't seem to use those Topps logos anymore.. ” -lyfestory

“ Not a huge Fan of the 81 Topps set design. But I have enjoyed collecting the cards that I have from this set. Jerry ” -sltyeager

“ I like the cap on the corner these were my favorute cards when they came out. ” -biggiofn7

“ Starting in the 50's and going until the late 60's, many teams road uniforms featured the city name on the front, arched in a dark color in plain block with plain block numbers on the back and occasional numbers on the sleeves. The Red Sox were the only team to continue this look into the 70's and 80's, and brought it back in a sense for their current road grays. ” -jlaz10

“ loving the stache ” -Erik_Young

“ Ahhhhh. This is the set that started my obsession with baseball cards. It is also my favorite Topps design from the 80's. ” -bplay24
