“ Ummm.. what is this exactly? ” -ray fosse's ghost

“ This might be a little long for RCotD, but I'll give it a go. Decipher put out two major collectible card games in the 90s - Star Wars, and Star Trek. Star Wars was far more successful, even though its mechanics were a bit convoluted. The Star Trek CCG had major playability issues - the best strategies of gameplay were non-interactive, and that usually makes for a lousy game. At least the cards looked great - and they still do. But despite printing several sets, this game never quite made it out of its niche within a niche hobby. It spent so much time emphasizing "fly here and solve this problem with matching crewmembers" that there wasn't a whole lot of room to play around with deck concepts. That may have changed years later when they added sets based on the TNG movies and Deep Space 9, but if you have a mediocre game to start with you can't draw people back in, especially if the CCG market crashes in the interregnum (like it did in 1996-98). Sadly, Fleer printed an Original Series CCG a couple of years later. It had far better mechanics, but the graphics were atrocious. I'm talking scans worse than what we make fun of on this page. I still think you can make a really fun collectible card or miniature game out of the Star Trek universe, but it needs to be done by someone who knows what their doing, and that includes WizKids (the Trek-Clix miniatures are nice, but the Heroclix rules are putrid). Sorry, I'll get down off my soap box now. ” -UNC_Samurai

“ Star Trek meets Pokemon! ” -jlaz10

“ Star Trek collectible card game.. Had to do a double take at the name of the card because I thought it said Vogon Raiders.. lol ” -Mike67

“ "Excuse me I'm wondering if you can help us we are looking for the Black Lagoon, can you help us ?" ” -uncaian

“ Out of all my contributions... This? Lol. I had a feeling We'd see some of these soon seeing as Kirk popped up out of nowhere... Let's see... The back of these cards is crap and the front is informative. Really, I just view these cards as cash grabs. ” -Dixxy
