What is the reasoning behind having 2 sticker sets? One is the 260 cards the other is forty some cards titled variation set. I did not see any sort of explaination to inform those who do not know.

1 - They were inserts in the 1982 card packs
2 - They have different text on the backs from the stickers that were issued separately

Just updated the release notes (pending Admin approval) to explain the difference. These variations have two representatives per team and the text on the back promotes the upcoming album that hadn't been released yet.

Maybe the set name should change to help avoid confusion. If they were released before the Topps Sticker set itself (based on the back text they were) then they aren't really variations per say, they were the first issue. Maybe chnage the set name to Topps Sticker Previews or something of that ilk. From what I can see there is no proper name; seems like everyone (SportLots, beckett, Wikipedia, etc., etc. etc.) just used Variations because it's easier. Based on the packaging images here I don't see anything that dictates a name either. Just a thought.

Yeah, "Previews" is a good way to describe them.

Forgot about that and I have a full set of those too. Maybe both sets should be reflected as the same name, whether Coming Soon, Previews or some else other agreed upon.

I just changed the name of the set to "Coming Soon Stickers" to match the Football ones (and since the text on the back of these says "coming soon".
