1992 Confex Enquirer

One last item to show from my South Dakota trip.  This is an oddball set I had never seen before.  It's goofy and I wasn't sure what to think of it at first.  Should I buy it when I see it or pass?  Obviously I took it home as the price was right.  As the name implies - The Baseball Enquirer - this takes after the publication you'd find at the local mart in the check out lane.  The drawings are caricatures of the people they represent and you're left to fill in exactly who it is.

The cards came in what I presume used to be a nice package.  As you can see in the photo, this was already damaged and unfortunately some of the cards were too, so there was no debate on whether or not to free the cards.  The front says this is the first series but I'm not aware of another series that was released.  Which may have been a good thing.

The back side says this is for 'all lovers of baseball' and it has a Certificate of Limited Edition.  Yep, a whole 185,000 sets!  If there's anything that says limited that's it!  You will also note the back side of the cards (left side) which shows a fake interview with the person.  Supposedly this will help you figure out who is on the card.

Card number one of the set leaves little to the imagination of who it represents.

A couple of my favorite Twins made it in the set.  If you don't get the Hrbek reference then you'll have to revisit the 1991 World Series.

The set includes some famous managers too.

All of us card collectors will understand this one.

These are tough ones.  TCDB lists the left card as 'Australian Player' and the right is 'Unidentified Superstar'.  If you figure these out let me know.

Here's the back side of the 'Unidentified Superstar'.

Of course, they couldn't resist making fun of the umps.

Some famous announcers made it in the set.  The one on the right should be obvious.  I had to look up the other.

Finally, a card of John Goodman.  I'm not sure why he made it in the set.

So there you have it, my one and only set of Confex cards.  This isn't something you see everyday and its probably not anything I'll be pulling out of a box just to admire, but I supposed it has its place in my collection... for now.
