My wife teaches 3rd grade and has a shop occasionally where the kids can redeem their behavior incentives, etc. for something--usually a treat or small toy or something. She sometimes has students into sports cards and I have quite a few trade cards so when she gets requests I'll pull some, put them in a top loader and send them to her class store. I found out this week that one girl requested a Caitlin Clark card if she can find one. I checked eBay prices and the cheapest was about $10 shipped. I was ready to say it is too much--but then my wife shared that this girl is the biggest taker of the sports cards--and gives them to her younger brothers because they get so excited about them. The Clark card would be for herself. So the Clark card got purchased and will be delivered to the store for this ecstatic youngster next week. Some kids remind you of the fun of getting a card that you love, rather than the money part of it all.

Thank you for sharing that story. Seeing kids so excited about the hobby and especially when a specific player inspires them reminds me of the joy it gave me as a kid. I hope that card makes that little girl's year!

Perfect story! I can’t think of a better way to spend $10.

Great job Fido. The best $10 you could ever spend for lifetime memories (your's, wifey's, and the young girl). PRICELESS!

What are your local teams? I am sure I probably have something to contribute to the cause!

Here in Utah the Jazz are the main team though there is now a NHL team moving here as well. Donations are not really needed as my wife is retiring from her teaching job in a couple weeks as we just had our first granddaughter and she is going to help my daughter and her husband with child care and scale back to something part time.

When you said Utah, I checked your bio. Assuming your wife teaches in the same district you live in, I spent the first five years of my career in the same district. Small world!

See, this is a much better story for send me some free cards than earlier this week.
I'm not saying you were asking for free cards (or that your story is fiction) but if you saw the thread earlier in the week, this would create more interest in donating cards to a member.

Lol. I'm replying to the thought of the child's smile and happiness. I've been retired fur almost 8 years. Recently had my knee replaced. I took a part-time job in the dairy dept. At a local grocery store. I also collect corvette cars. Hot wheels ,match box etc. I have. Accumulated many other hot wheels along the way. So when customers come through the dairy section, I hand out cars to the kids. The joyful smiles are so much enjoyed. Their excitement. It is so worth the giving.
Just wanted to share this also. My cards go to the boys/ girls club and teachers.
